Jahaj maharaja

The T-shaped strap of a Toakwali Teenveni Maharaja is made up of three broad braids called ‘deta veni’ and then a Tassel (Gonda) in which golden rings are pierced attached to the T-shaped strap. The front portion of the Toakwali Teenveni Maharaja is curved upwards towards the sky, hence the name ‘toakwali’ meaning ‘pointed’ seeming like an arrow head giving it a royal look. This style of Chappal was worn by ‘Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj’ of Kolhapur and since, it has been called as ‘Maharaja’ chappal meaning the footwear of a king.
